Frequently Asked Questions

How do I schedule an appointment?

The studio is appointment only.  Please contact your artist directly in order to set up a consultation or tattoo appointment. We understand you want to get in as soon as possible, but please be as flexible as you can with us when booking your appointment.

How do I get to the studio?

Silent Earth Studios
3909 NE MLK BLVD
Suite 205
Portland OR, 97212

We are in the red and green 2 story building on the NW corner of MLK and failing above St.Beatrix (Bushel & Peck) bake shop. There is parking all around the building, a few spots on MLK, and it's all free throughout the neighborhood.  There is a small lot between St. Beatrix and Cafe Olli , if there are spots open feel free to park there.  Head to the back of the building, there is a staircase with a large metal mailbox, head upstairs and inside.. the studio is the first business on the left.

I have been feeling a little under the weather, can I still get tattooed?

If you are sick, please PLEASE STAY HOME!!!  Please contact your artist before your appointment with as much time as possible beforehand. Our artists value their health as well as the health of their families, so we do not want to be in close contact with anyone sick for hours at a time.

If you are unwell we will reschedule your appointment and give you priority in our schedule in order to get you in as soon as possible once you are feeling better.  We reserve the right to cancel your appointment on the spot if you show up visibly sick.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Come comfortable and ready to sit for a while.  Please wear comfortable clothing that (in a hopefully unlikely event) won't be ruined or cause a problem if any ink gets on it.  Make sure clothing makes it easy for the artist to access the entire area the tattoo will be in.  Feel free to bring headphones if you like for during the procedure, as well as a snack to keep your energy up and a non-alcoholic beverage with a lid.

Will I need to leave a deposit?

A non-refundable deposit is required to book your appointment.  Appointment times will not be held without a deposit.

The deposit can be made via PayPal friends/family or by credit card (by invoice or in person) and will go toward the final cost of your new tattoo.  If there are multiple sessions, the deposit will be applied to the final session of the tattoo and will be the only deposit necessary. Deposits are non-refundable but are transferable to a rescheduled appointment provided that you give at least 48 hours notice prior to time of appointment. Chronic rescheduling may result in forfeiture of deposit and require a new deposit to make another appointment.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept all major forms of credit/debit card.  We also accept payments via paypal.

Can I get tattooed if I am under 18?

Unfortuanltely NO.  In the state of Oregon it is illegal to tattoo minors regardless of parental conscent.  All clients must be over 18 with a government issued ID.

I don't know what I want to get... Do you offer flash or pre-made designs?

Yes, some of our artists will periodically offer premade flash tattoo designs. They can typically be found posted on our personal instagram pages.

Can I tan or swim after I get a tattoo?

To insure the quality of your tattoo we request you do not swim or submerge your tattoo for 2 weeks.  We also recommend not tanning and staying out of the sun for 4 weeks.  Doing these two activities before the appropriate time period can potentially extremely damage your skin and your tattoo.  We highly recommend a good sunblock on the tattoo (as well as the rest of your skin) after that time frame for the life of the tattoo.

Aftercare Instructions and Second Skin

Be gentle with your tattoo during the healing process.

Leave initial Second Skin bandage on for 24 hours.  After the full day, remove bandage and wash tattoo with soap and warm water.  Dry tattoo by pressing a dry paper towel until skin/tattoo is completely dry.  We recommend applying a second bandage and wearing for the following 3 days.  After bandaging period is over, wash tattoo 2 times a day and moisturize with a VERY THIN coat of lotion or approved salve 3-4 times a day for the next two weeks.

While bandaged you should be able to continue with life as normal, shower, dress, sleep, and go about most activities with your bandage on.  If possible  try to take physical activities easier while bandaged and while healing as sweat may weaken bond of bandage, and stretching skin may affect healing.

Some weeping and color is normal to be seen under Second Skin Bandage.

Pay attention to Second Skin bandage, if ANY redness or swelling occurs, remove bandage and continue onto lotion or balm stage.

To remove bandage: Find an edge and pull bandage off slowly being careful to contain any fluids inside bandage.  We recommend removing in a warm shower.  Warm water and soap will loosen adhesive and make bandage easier to remove.  Please give yourself extra time than expected to take bandage off.

We DO NOT recommend using Neosporin, A&D ointment, Vaseline, or that stuff you found randomly on Amazon.

We DO recommend only using fragrance free lotion such as Aveeno, Lubriderm, Curel, or an approved tattoo ointments such as Redemption or Hustle Butter.

DO NOT submerge or soak your tattoo (swim, soak or sauna) for 2 weeks following your tattoo.

DO NOT expose your tattoo to sun or tanning beds for 30 days following your tattoo.  Sun exposure may carry a greater possibility to burn your skin and to a deeper level and may cause scaring.

We guarantee our work for a full year from the date of the tattoo if it is healed correctly. Tattoos take at least 4 weeks to fully heal.  If any issues arise please contact your artist, or contact your physician.
